About Laiya St. Clair
Laiya St. Clair’s vibrant career in radio, podcast production, and content creation spans nearly 25 years of work highlighting brilliant Black narratives in music, arts, and culture.
As co-host, producer, and strategic talent booker for award-winning podcasts like Questlove Supreme, Jill Scott Presents: J.ill the Podcast, and Love + Grit, Laiya emanates a freshness through the airwaves that’s equal parts mischief, whimsy, and unabashed realness.
Laiya is celebrated as an on-air personality and pop culture commentator whose rhythmic rants and articulations offer a distinct resonance in both sound and matter.
A Washington D.C. native, Laiya St. Clair started her career in radio interning at the age of 13 as a sophomore in high school for Cathy Hughes, founder of Urban One (formerly Radio One), the largest Black-owned and operated broadcast company in the nation. Laiya went on to earn her Bachelor’s in Mass Media Arts from Clark Atlanta University, and in 1999, made her way to Philly where her career in radio would level up hard.
Over the next couple of decades, Laiya would hold a number of positions in radio and entertainment – starting in the promotions department of a small radio station, producing, and selecting music for online radio shows to eventually making history co-hosting the first all-female morning show, “Philly’s Morning Show,” with Shamara on Philly’s Hot 107.9.
Her contributions to radio and the culture have garnered a proclamation from The City of Philadelphia and top positions on The Source’s “Power 30 In Radio” for two consecutive years. Laiya has also been featured as talent for segments on Comcast, Fox, The CW, The Doctor Oz Show, HuffPost Live, and Music Choice, and has hosted Philly 360º’s (Visit Philadelphia’s) annual behind-the-scenes coverage of Roots Picnic for six years.
